Bowles Rice Adds Nine Attorneys

Nine attorneys have recently joined Bowles Rice LLP, according to Thomas A. Heywood, the law firm's Managing Partner.  The new associates are Michael M. Cary, Daniel J. Cohn, Kayla A. Cook, W. Taylor Frankovitch, Roger G. Hanshaw, Lindsey D.C. McIntosh, Thompson R. Pearcy, Jared T. Moore and Brittany Leah Vascik.  They join the firm's expanding practice areas of energy law, environmental law, real estate law, litigation, corporate and commercial law, education law and employment law. 

"We are delighted to welcome these nine outstanding associates to Bowles Rice," Mr. Heywood said.  "They have joined our firm at a very exciting time, as we foresee a new era of opportunity and prosperity throughout the Appalachian region."  

And further growth is coming to Bowles Rice very soon, according to Heywood.  Two additional attorneys, who are admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and Ohio, will be joining the firm in November.

The nine new associates, according to Mr. Heywood, are the "cream of the crop," selected from law schools across the region, and bring exceptional academic strength and real world experiences to their new roles. 

Michael Cary earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 2011, where he was a member of Mountain honorary and a member of the Black Law Student Association.  He received his undergraduate degree in English, magna cum laude, from the University of Charleston in 2007, where he received the President's Award for Outstanding Senior.  Mr. Cary has joined the firm's Education Law Group, which serves school boards, regional educational service agencies and multi-county vocational centers throughout West Virginia, and he will work in the firm's Charleston, West Virginia office. 

Daniel Cohn received his law degree, summa cum laude, from Florida Coastal School of Law. He has joined the firm's Charleston, West Virginia office and will practice in the area of commercial and financial services.  Mr. Cohn earned his undergraduate degree in communication, summa cum laude, from the College of Charleston (South Carolina) in 2003 and served in law enforcement and as an investigative specialist for the FBI before entering law school.

Kayla Cook is a 2012 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law, where she was a member of the Order of the Barristers.  She has joined the firm's Energy Department in the Morgantown, West Virginia office and will practice in the areas of energy and real estate law.  Ms. Cook received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, in accounting, from West Virginia University in 2009.

Taylor Frankovitch has joined the firm's newest office, in Southpointe, Pennsylvania.  He is admitted to practice law in both Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and is working in the areas of energy, real estate and corporate law, as well as litigation.  Mr. Frankovitch received both a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business, cum laude, in 2010.  He went on to earn a postgraduate LL.M. degree from Duke University School of Law in 2012.  He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Washington and Jefferson College in 2007.

Roger Hanshaw brings a strong foundation in science to his law practice and the Environmental Law team in the firm's Charleston, West Virginia office.  Prior to earning his law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2012, Mr. Hanshaw earned his PhD in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 2006 and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from West Virginia University in 2002, where he was a member of Mountain honorary and received the Dennis O'Brien Award, given annually to the top graduate of the WVU Honors Program.  He served as assistant director and director of Research for the West Virginia University Extension Service from 2008 to 2012 and has written numerous articles for scientific publications.  Mr. Hanshaw also is a Certified Professional Parliamentarian and Professional Registered Parliamentarian and regularly counsels government bodies and nonprofit organizations throughout the state and nation on meeting procedures, parliamentary law, bylaws construction and convention management.

Lindsey McIntosh is a 2012 graduate of the West Virginia College of Law, where she served as community service chair for the Student Bar Association and academic chair for the Black Law Student Association.  Ms. McIntosh will practice in the Employers' Legal Services group in the firm's Charleston, West Virginia office.  She earned her undergraduate degree in business administration from West Virginia University in 2009, where she was a member of Mountain honorary and a member of the Student Board of Governors.

Jared Moore received his law degree from West Virginia University in 2012, where he was a member of the Order of the Barristers, president of the Marilyn E. Lugar Association and 2012 champion of the Lugar Cup Competition.  He is a member of the firm's Litigation Department in the Charleston, West Virginia office.  He earned his undergraduate degree in business administration, summa cum laude, from West Virginia University.

Thompson Pearcy has joined the Bowles Rice Commercial and Financial Services group in the Charleston, West Virginia office and also is practicing in energy law.  He received his law degree from West Virginia University in 2012, where he received CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for health care torts and employment law.  He earned an undergraduate degree in business administration from West Virginia University in 2007 and worked as a financial services representative before entering law school.

Brittany Vascik has joined the Litigation Department in the firm's Charleston, West Virginia office.  She is a 2012 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law, where she served as Executive Publications Editor and Associate Editor of the West Virginia Law Review.  She earned her undergraduate degree in industrial and systems engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 2009 and attended the Alliance Francaise in Paris, France in 2005.
