Karly N. King

Associate

Karly King is an associate attorney who practices from the firm’s Morgantown, West Virginia office. A former summer clerk, Karly has experience working with Bowles Rice attorneys across multiple practice groups, offices, and matters. She focuses her practice on general litigation and has experience in drafting litigation documents, reviewing and analyzing discovery, and preparing for and attending trial.

As a product of the West Virginia public school system, and the daughter of an elementary school principal, Karly found Bowles Rice as the obvious choice for her career in education law. After graduating from high school, Karly attended the University of Charleston, where she graduated summa cum laude with dual-bachelor’s degrees in business administration and political science. During her time at the University of Charleston, Karly served as a Peer Tutor and Teaching Assistant for the school’s Academic Success Center.

Karly went on to earn her law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law, where she continued her education-assistance efforts and served as the Citation Teaching Assistant. While in law school, Karly also served as the Student Liaison Board Member for the West Virginia Judicial Lawyer Assistance Program.

As a native West Virginian, Karly is passionate about giving back to the mountain state and its residents. In pursuit of these efforts, Karly accepted an appointment from then-Chief Justice Elizabeth Walker in May 2023 to serve on the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeal’s Taskforce on Lawyer Wellbeing. Karly has appeared at multiple state Bar Association meetings in this capacity to present on issues surrounding lawyer wellbeing.

Karly is a southern-West Virginia transplant to Morgantown, where she currently resides with her English Setter, Krew. In an effort to be more involved locally, Karly accepted a position as a board member with the Monongalia County’s Child Advocacy, is a member of the Monongalia County Bar Association, is an active Legal Aid volunteer, and is on Monongalia County’s abuse and neglect list.
