Matthew C. Carlisle

Matthew “Matt” Carlisle is a member of the firm’s Insurance Defense team and practices from the Marietta, Ohio office. An experienced trial lawyer with nearly 30 years of practice, Matt focuses a significant portion of his work on insurance defense and related civil litigation, representing insureds, businesses, and other clients in matters throughout Ohio and West Virginia.

Matt has extensive courtroom experience and has handled numerous matters through jury trial. His litigation practice includes personal injury and other insurance-related claims, as well as corporate and commercial disputes. He works closely with insurers and their insureds throughout the litigation process, from initial case evaluation and discovery through negotiation, trial, and, when necessary, appeal. As part of Bowles Rice’s broader Insurance Defense team, Matt looks forward to expanding this work into additional lines of insurance and serving a wider range of carriers and insureds.

Matt also maintains a substantial creditors’ rights and collections practice, representing businesses and other creditors in the recovery of outstanding obligations. His experience in both litigation and collections allows him to evaluate matters with an eye toward practical and efficient resolution while remaining prepared to pursue claims through the courts when necessary.

In addition, Matt is an experienced mediator who assists parties in resolving disputes outside the courtroom. He mediates matters in both Ohio and West Virginia, drawing on decades of litigation and trial experience to help parties evaluate their positions, identify areas of agreement, and work toward resolution.

Matt earned his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University.

He is admitted to practice in Ohio and West Virginia, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio and the federal courts in West Virginia. Matt is a member of the Ohio and West Virginia state bar associations.
