Alyssa L. Lazar

Alyssa L. Lazar focuses her practice on labor and employment matters and related litigation. She is experienced in pre-suit negotiations, pre-trial litigation, and motions practice. Alyssa defends her clients against lawsuits alleging violations of employment law, general negligence, medical malpractice, and other common law and statutory law claims. Alyssa practices from the firm’s Morgantown, West Virginia office.

In her labor and employment practice, Alyssa drafts and reviews employment contracts; advises clients on employment policies and procedures; and provides counsel on a myriad of workplace issues. Alyssa is instrumental in helping her clients navigate delicate situations with employees, and she has experience representing clients before the West Virginia Human Rights Commission and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Alyssa has had several articles published by HR Daily Advisor and the National Law Review, and has had speaking engagements designed to assist employers in overcoming employment issues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a student at the Duquesne University School of Law, Alyssa served as the Executive Student Articles Editor of the Duquesne Law Review, the School's flagship journal. Her own student article was published in the journal's 57th edition. Alyssa was also a competitor in the student-run Appellate Moot Court Board. Her team was named Regional Champion in New York City and awarded a Best Brief Award at the American Bar Association’s National Appellate Advocacy Competition. Alyssa’s team also competed and were finalists at the National First Amendment Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. In 2019, Alyssa was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, a nationally recognized honorary organization for students who demonstrate exceptional oral and written advocacy skills.

During her time as a student, Alyssa also served as a volunteer for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania; an intern with the Education Law Clinic at the Tribone Center for Clinical Legal Education; and a judicial intern for Justice David N. Wecht of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
