Litigation Attorney — Charleston, West Virginia

If you are a litigator with 2-3 years of experience considering a lateral opportunity, we have the job for you.  Bowles Rice LLP is seeking highly motivated, litigation attorneys with 2-3 years of experience to work as members of our busy and thriving mass tort defense litigation team. We have.  The ideal candidate will be someone who has meaningful experience with drafting pleadings, preparing and responding to written discovery, interviewing witnesses, drafting motions and briefs, taking and defending depositions, and developing overall case strategy. A minimum of two years of relevant litigation experience is required, along with strong writing and analytical skills and a solid work ethic.  Prior defense experience, especially in opioid litigation, is highly preferred. Selected candidate must be licensed to practice law in West Virginia and able to pass all required background screening. 

What will you be doing?

You will play an invaluable part working with our litigation team on high profile, complex and fast paced cases, including multi-jurisdictional disputes.  We are looking for three new team members that will be involved in:

  • Drafting of pleadings, motions and complex legal briefing
  • Intense legal research and case strategy assessments
  • Assisting in the preparation for depositions and hearings as well as conducting and managing some of your own
  • Serving on trial team
  • Overseeing paralegals and staff on plaintiff-specific issues and file maintenance in our mass tort cases
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external counsel, expert witnesses and other external parties
  • Managing meetings effectively by setting clear agendas
  • Demonstrating effective case management
  • Assisting the firm in achieving its professional objectives
