Barbara Joseph serves as the firm’s Client Development Director.  A native of Michigan, Barbara graduated with honors from Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts and worked at the Holland Sentinel, a daily newspaper in Holland, Michigan, before relocating to Charleston, West Virginia in 1979.

Prior to joining Bowles Rice, she served as the outreach coordinator for Charleston Area Medical Center’s Ryan White Program, which provides services to persons infected with HIV/AIDS in 19 southern West Virginia counties.  She was responsible for the program’s marketing and public relations activities, as well as collaborating with community organizations and service providers.

From 2003-2007, Barbara also acted as the WV media coordinator for the state’s Wendy’s High School Heisman Awards Program, coordinating logistics for the program’s annual awards dinner and announcement of outstanding high school students from across the state.

She is a former vice president of the advertising division at Charles Ryan Associates, supervising the firm’s creative and account management staff.  She left the firm after eight years to form her own consulting business, providing creative and media services to a variety of clients in West Virginia and Virginia.

Barbara is active in many community organizations.  As a volunteer, she has written grants for an elementary school in Charleston, securing nearly $500,000 for technology and fine arts education.  She served on Local School Improvement Councils at the elementary and middle school levels.  She is a past board member of the Junior League and Read Aloud Kanawha County.

Barbara and her husband, also a Michigan State alum, are the proud parents of a son and daughter.
