Joseph W. Sowards, a Financial Analyst in the Charleston office and a Certified Public Accountant, has been with the firm since 1999.  An honor graduate of Marshall University with a B.B.S. in Accounting and Economics, Joe previously served as Chief Accounting Officer for United Bankshares, Inc.

Prior to joining the firm, Joe spent 27 years working in various.aspxects of finance, including public accounting and internal auditing.  He spent the last 24 of those years in upper level financial bank management.  Joe completed 15 years of service for United Bankshares, Inc., where he was responsible for all.aspxects of accounting and finance, including mergers and acquisition, in his role of Chief Accounting Officer.

While at Bowles Rice, Joe has worked in the commercial and financial group and specialized in the banking subgroup.  He assists attorneys with SEC work for reporting, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters.

Joe is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the West Virginia Society of CPAs.
