Three Bowles Rice Attorneys Named “Lawyer Of The Year”

Three partners in the law firm Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love LLP have been recognized as 2011 Lawyers of the Year in Charleston, West Virginia by the peer-review publication Best Lawyers.

F. Thomas Graff, Jr. was named Corporate Lawyer of the Year, J. Thomas Lane was named Energy Lawyer of the Year and Charles M. Love III was named Mass Torts Litigator of the Year.  According to Best Lawyers, this honor is based on particularly high ratings received by each of the three attorneys in surveys of their peers for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.  Only a single lawyer is recognized in each high-profile legal specialty in large legal communities.

Before becoming the leader of the firm’s Energy Department in 2008, Graff was the managing partner of Bowles Rice for 20 years.  He has broad experience in negotiations, contracts, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and capital funding involving commercial, banking and coal, oil and gas transactions. 

Lane, a Bowles Rice partner since 1975, is a member of the firm’s Energy Department and served as an adjunct professor of Coal, Oil and Gas Law at West Virginia University College of Law for 20 years.  He is the president of the Charleston City Council, where he has been an elected member since 1987.  He is a past president and trustee of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation. 

Love, who joined Bowles Rice in 1969, is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department.  He focuses his practice in Mass Tort and Toxic Tort Litigation.  He is a past president of both the West Virginia State Bar and the West Virginia Bar Association.  He is a Fellow of the American Bar Association and the West Virginia State Bar.
