MARTINSBURG - Hospice of the Panhandle received a $45,000 pledge to its capital campaign recently from Bowles Rice McDavid Graff and Love, a Martinsburg law firm that also has offices in Winchester, Charleston, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Lexington, Ky.
The pledge is for Hospice’s $3 million “Building the Dream” campaign. The campaign will fund the building of a 14-bed inpatient facility as well as an office complex along W.Va. 9 at the Berkeley/Jefferson County line.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Bowles Rice has come forward, relatively early in our campaign, and signed on in a large way,” said the Rev. GT Schramm, who is chairman of Hospice of the Panhandle’s Board of Directors, as well as the Building the Dream overall campaign chair. “The gift by Bowles Rice, just like our other major gifts, sets the standard for giving in the community.”
So far, nearly $750,000 – all from local businesses and residents – has been pledged to the $3 million effort.
“Bowles Rice firmly believes in giving back to the communities in which it does business,” said Bowles Rice executive committee member Charles F. “Chazz” Printz Jr. “The work that Hospice does with patients and families throughout the four counties is absolutely phenomenal. We are very pleased to play a role in helping this project become a reality.”
Hospice, a not-for-profit organization, has been providing primarily in-home care for 30 years to critically ill patients from Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan and Hampshire counties. The organization has experienced tremendous growth, especially over the past three years.
“We continue to be pleased at the level of support and commitment that the project is receiving in the community,” said Hospice CEO Margaret Cogswell. “While we know that while we still have a ways to go to our goal, we are clearly making steady progress.”
Additionally, leaders from many county and local government agencies – including the four county commissions and most of the four-county’s municipalities – as well as other agencies such as the development authorities and chambers of commerce, have offered letters and resolutions in support of Building the Dream.
“There is absolutely no question that the momentum for the project continues to build,” Schramm said. “This will undoubtedly be an exciting year for us.”
